Gender Inequality

Aren't you tired? Aren't you just exhausted of being discriminated and looked down upon because you are a woman? It doesn't make sense to me how some people think that women are weak, useless, and good-for-nothing while men are acknowledged as strong, brilliant, and valuable.

One time, a friend of mines snapped at me because I cursed, and he was saying that it's not good for others to hear. Yes, he is right, cursing isn't something that I wanna keep as a habit, but because I was such a stubborn and obnoxious girl, I defended myself by saying, "You guys curse all the time. Why can't I?" Then, he said that it's okay for guys to curse but not girls. At that point, I was confused, speechless, and mad at the same time. Why? What? How? Since when?

I am not talking physical here, but yes, you guys might be stronger and have bigger figures than us. However, that doesn't mean that we are less knowledgeable  or cannot have the same rights as men, right?

It's 2015! Women are well-educated, independent, and determined. We are BOLD, we know what we're doing and what we want to achieve. However, there are still people who underestimate our knowledge and intelligence, and I think it is irrational. You might think I say all of this because I am a female, but no. This problems exist, women have lower salary than men, women aren't trusted to be a leader, women are considered powerless. This needs to change.

I have to say, gender inequality is men's issues too. I just watched Emma Watson's speech for the UN, and I agree with everything she had to say. She really is a role model, and I adore her for her bravery and intelligence to stand up for what is right. Here are a couple of quotes from her that I really love:

"Men don't have the benefits of equality either. We don't often talk about men being in prison by gender stereotype, but I can see that they are... If men don't have to be aggressive in order to be accepted, women won't feel compelled to be submissive. If men don't have to control, women won't have to be controlled. Both men and women should feel free to be sensitive. Both men and women should feel free to be strong."

"I want men to take up this mental so that their daughters, sisters, and mothers can be free from prejudice. But also, so that their sons have permissions to be vulnerable and human too."

-Emma Watson

  2. Brilliant post! I really struggle with gender inequality because so many people (guys mainly) seem to think it isn't an issue when there is blatant inequality in wages and general treatment. I enjoy guys being guys but I don't think it should be used as an excuse to harass, discriminate against and put down girls. It's exhausting fighting against it constantly and knowing that there is a good chance no matter how amazing at my job I am or how high up I get in my career, I probably won't be paid as much money (or respect) as a guy in the same position would be. I wrote a post about my view after Emma Watsons speech if you would like to take a look: http://sheepishlyshameful.blogspot.co.uk/2014/09/if-not-me-who-if-not-now-when-did.html

    1. Right? This gender discrimination around the world needs to be stopped because it is unfair, not only to girls, but also guys. All of us have to work together, spread the world, state our opinions on this before it's too late.
I'll def check it out, love <3

  3. Love this! I think the good news is that more and more women AND men are starting to feel the exact same way. 2014 was a pretty great year for women as people are starting to realize that we really haven't achieved gender equality yet and it's about time that we do. I wrote a post about my favorite feminist moments of 2014 that left me feeling empowered and inspired if you'd like to have a look :) http://wp.me/p5vrSM-yQ

  4. Well done for shedding light on a topic like this on your blog!
Equality has to work both ways, extreme feminism without understanding the real meaning of equality (for BOTH men and women) will only breed more harm than good.
Emma watson is such a role model. I absolutely adore her as well.

  5. Great post. After traveling outside of North America, I see how other countries are so far behind compared to Canada and the USA. However, even when it feels like things are improving and changing here, we still have a long way to go. The more we shed light and share this, the more awareness we bring to the subject.

    1. I live in Indonesia, but I have been to America and am currently studying in China right now, and I can see the differences between each country. I see how men are more powerful in the Third World countries, and it needs to change. You're right, the more we share about this, the more awareness we bring to the subject ! <3

  6. I admire Emma Watson so much. She is (or comes across in the media) an intelligent young woman doing great things. I watched her speech a while ago, I totally agreed with everything that she said. Great post!

  7. The picture with Beyonce thought summarizes perfectly my idea.
And I agree with the previous comments about the inequality in a lot of countries. I can speak for Italy and we are still thousands miles away from gender equality. mostly because it is something people don't wanna talk about and because you are a lazy country too fossilize in tradition. I miss the US for its open mentality, but more we talk about this subject, the better is.

    thx for sharing this post(:

  8. I can see that you're really passionate about this - I've just written a post that you might like about whether or not make-up is anti feminist. Here's the link if you're interested:

  9. This is a great thing to highlight and more people need to think about it! I work in tech which is such a male dominated industry and do a lot of work to try and get more women into tech/science industry. There is still a huge disparity in pay and in women in leadership positions. There are so many good books about this too - I really recommend Lean In which I read last year and really enjoyed x

  10. I love this. Yes, we still have a long way to go but I'm so happy to see more bloggers writing about this. Also, sometimes you just need to curse! I probably curse too much, but it's not always a bad thing. ;)

  11. Love this! It's such an important issue to raise, especially the fact that feminism and gender equally affects men just as much as it did women. If only everybody thought this way! x x x
